Hi Mara,
I would agree that there are stages of Mastery and that we can begin to teach others before we have become fully realized human beings. I think that once we reach "complete perfection" as humans we at that point could be considered complete Masters. But to completely Master being human is only the beginning as growth in awareness has much higher vistas. Maybe the vistas of realization continue to go on beyond the complete understanding of this Universe and on to higher forms of expression. Suppose once humanity as a species is perfected we can evolve into a different species that far exceeds the limitations of time and space! Perhaps we can learn to handle the form of a Sun or even greater such as a galaxy. What awareness that would be! And even as I consider these possibilities there must be possibilities that I do not yet have the capacity to even imagine, at least not yet.
As far as attachment goes there are people that enjoy the money they use, the cigarettes they smoke and even the occasional drink. But for most of us we become attached to these things and that is a problem to be worked through. Some on there way to complete mastery may still have attachments but a fully ripened Human can enjoy things without being attached by ego.
I was told a story years ago about a Yogi Master with a small band of aspirants traveling somewhere in India. He taught his students to adhere to a strict vegetarian diet. But when they would arrive at a village the Master would eat whatever was placed before him including meat. One of his students became increasingly resentful as this scenario was repeated thought their travels. The thoughts of this student were known to the Master but he did not let on. Finally after arriving at another village the student criticized the Master and said something like 'you tell us that we cannot eat meat while you eat anything you like and we are starving'. The Master said 'so you want to eat what I eat' and the student replied "yes" The Master then told the student that if he could eat what the Master eats then he could eat anything he wanted. The student agreed. The Master went over to a fire and began grabbing handfuls of red hot coals and eating them as fast as he brought them to his mouth. Of course the student decided being a vegetarian was not so bad after all.
Love, Light & Peace
