A Swami who has given me a lot of guidance with my meditation and meditation
experiences, recommended me to try not to get too addicted to have certain
sounds playing in the background.. At this time I was very sensitive to
traffic noises outside and found them incredibly disturbing, even up to the
point that I would suddenly just stand up from meditation practice and throw
fuming fits and go and sulk somewhere. I wanted to block it out so bad,
using earplugs, locking myself into a closet and goddess knows what else I
tried..
When I talked to my Swami friend about this (who has been meditating his
whole life), he recommended to not start playing sounds or try to block them
out, since it was a way of denying the world. Now I play a CD I made myself
with ocean waves in the background very quietly, just to create a more
pleasing atmosphere in the room.
What I am getting at here is that Paul may be right in that it may be good
to be careful about things like holosync if you do it too much, since if you
block yourself out from the world without accepting it at the same time, you
will skip a lot of stuff and it may give rise to some difficulties.
When I meditate today, I -allow- myself to hear all that goes on around me,
including traffic outside.. I always thought that in order to be successful
in meditation, everything had to be blocked out.. I even allow myself to
feel upset about disturbances too if that's the case.. That's something that
must be allowed to express itself too. Oh, it is probably much easier in a
quiet place with no disturbances, but how will you then be able to make it a
habit in your day to day life? Meditation shouldn't have to be something
separate from waking life.. The real purpose of meditation is to clear out
all the karmic junk and make your day yo day life into a meditative
experience, so we can live in it. Although I can definitely understand the
desire to have some wild rides of conciosness. =)
Maybe I will try out the Holocync, it sounds interesting. I have no right to
judge it until I've tried it myself.
With love
