You can slough it off if you are entirely ready to let it go. It would
not come up in consciousness unless you were prepared at least to
confront it. But the willingness to let it go is a heart level process,
not of intellect. The letting go with full heart awareness is what
completes the healing from the dysfunction. And I believe our purpose is
to bring such dysfunction to conscious heart awareness, letting it go as
we become willing and able, and thereby healing ourselves and all who
similarly suffer from that same dysfunction. Our healing makes it
possible for similarly afflicted others to bring that same dysfunction
to their own conscious awareness and follow it through to healing by a
similar path. We have trouble letting it go because each such
dysfunction played an important role in sustaining our separateness. Our
separateness seemed at the inception of our incarnation essential.
Whatever the dysfunction is it is powerful bcause it reminds us of the
ultimate dysfunction, the delusion that in incarnating we must (and did)
separate from Oneness. The remembrance of that directly is nearly too
awful to contemplate. Jesus Christ's crucifixion is the Christian
metaphor for the horror of separation from Oneness. But each of us, to
become reconciled with Oneness, must remember that awful moment where we
belived separation and forgot Oneness, for only then is it possible to
bring fully to conscious awareness the Oneness of which we are part. So
each sloughing off of "stuff" is the evocation of that horrific moment,
until we are able to cope with its true horror and on faith alone pass
into the memory of the Oneness we have always been.
"Pick up your cross and follow me."

You know when "stuff" comes up to be processed. You know, old buried
emotions surface, and you go through them, sorting them out, looking for
the roots, finding the roots, "aren't I silly". Blah blah blah. Why
can't you just junk it? It's all rubbish anyway isn't it? Why can't you
just slough it off like a snake shedding its skin, and start again,
clean? Marion
