Sounds as though you could have seen and experienced your mental and emotional body ascending from your physical body - and this phenomenon happens every time you sleep - but in your case you actually could see it happening, hence the “odd, shadowed shapes over the bed’.

 

You say, “Then I "woke" up in my father's house,…..’

 

Sounds as though you were alternating from the dream state to the state of seeing and experiencing the ascension of the mental and emotional body during sleep.

 

Just an idea on my part.
