What a great quote, it just so happens I was talking to a friend at work just before I received this e-mail about this same subject. I said to her: "what we need is more compassion with the people that irritate us" and both of us were in agreement with this.
Then your e-mail shows up at the same instant. Now that is synchronicity!!!

Dear Alicia,

I experienced many, many symbols in the early days of my awakening. Symbols
and Synchronicity are ways the energy seems to have to get our attention! :))

Feeling separation from others, especially those we were once close to is one
of the difficult trials we have to overcome. It's hard to imagine how people
can remain so asleep, and yet that is simply where they *are* and choose to
be at the moment. Gradually we tend to make contact with kindred spirits and
stop feeling so alone

There is a wonderful quote from "Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism" by
Chogyam Trungpa

"Compassion automatically invites you to relate with people, because you no
longer regard people as a drain on your energy. They recharge your energy,
because in the process of relating with them you acknowledge your wealth, your
richness. "
