Hey Ranbir,
It was kind of you to write the email, there are
certain things I strongly agree with you and certain
things i disagree.
About the ideal method of enlightenment is not
isolation. That though is the popular conception, it
is not the best, because the deprivation of the
sensory pleasures in effect would cause accumulation
of monstrous samskaras, which would definitely forbid
you from reaching your goal. I do not disagree that
considerable spiritual advancement is possible through
isolation.
the ancient Indian philosophy for the way of a man
life was... dharmarthakamamoksha, splitting the word,
dharma-artha-kama-moksha. dharma meaning the virtuos
philosophy, artha meaning money and subsequent
material procurement, kama meaning desire, and moksha
meaning liberation.
the right way for a man is to have a principled and
virtuous philosophy in life, and with this obtain
money and material, and hence satisfy his or her
sensual needs and desires, and then obtain moksha or
liberation.
There is no greater penance in this world than to
live in the society facing the worldy sorrows and joy
and yet be focused on moksha. The great Kabir has said
that a sanyasi is 10 steps away from god, but a
householder has god in all his glory right in his
heart.
The problem with today´s religion is that, mediocre,
unenlightened fools have become the big religious
mentors of the people.
It is so in all religions of today.
Due to this, people who don´t really understand
religion or do not want to , convert it to a system
of stupid fanaticism, where people blindly do because
they are taught or brain washed. That is how great
religions deteriorate into fanaticism, expansionism
and idolatry, and worse.. commercialization.
About voices, I think your intentions are very
honorable. but the effect it would have on the people
experiencing it would be disastrous. because these
voices are produced by bad samskaras (present from
this birth and the previous). And they ought to be
cleansed from it.
If they are made to believe that the voices have
actual control in the physical dimension, or that a
particular smell is an achievement, human that we are
we tend to go in a direction that gives us more
pleasure and we shall try to seek that instead of the
actual goal
This might might cause them to be gripped with
needless fear or inflated with unnecessary ego, both
of which are extremely detrimental.
This is where the bhakti or devotional aspect of
religion plays its role, when people can use their
devotion and sense of security and trust that god
provides just by his name, which would have easily
salvaged them out of such a crisis and that whenever
they have such experiences they submit themselves
completely to the protection and guidance of the god,
with total belief.
For the people who cannot get themselves to practice
Bhakti,
the best way I suggest would be to sit down every
evening in a very submissive posture and attitude and
“ imagine “ the dirt in your body and system and feel
it leaving your body through the back.
One must not meditate though one feels like , during
this period. It should be done for about 15 min to
half an hour.
This might seem like a retarded suggestion, but what
this does is , it improves the will of the self that
would cleanse the samskaras, naturally and moreover
make meditation very productive.
