I always believed I was seeing prana when I saw them, almost like dust
particles but much finer, similar to the effect we sometimes get when we
have water in the eye.
I remember once someone talking about enlightenment and describing it
constantly snowing tiny lights. Maybe this was the effect he was describing.

I've often wondered what these were myself, and am still
questioning...originally I thought they were some sort of spirit, until I
realized I could control their movement and that they were more connected to
me than being their own entities entirely. I then took into consideration
that emotions or half-developed thought forms appear as balls or sparks in
the emotional body of ones aura. In meditation I'd see the balls appear from
my fingertips, then gravitate towards my plants or my dog, and just sort of
blend in with them.
Then I came across this article about DNA which 'might' explain it, if it is
the same phenomena....interesting though, but I'm still kind of at a loss.
