Dear Deepak,
Sometimes the reluctance of sharing physical contact can be based on family
upbringing--whether your parents were physically affectionate or not. Possibly
it relates to sexual abuse, but not necessarily.
John Selby in his "Kundalini Awakening, A Gentle Guide to Chakra Activation"
likes a balanced approach. He says "At this point in history it is
ecologically as well as spiritually important that we break free of both the
Hindu and Christian attitudes that judge the lowly reality of the Earth as
negative...and that revere only heavenly, nonearthly dimensions of
consciousness...So the Root Chakra, which provides us with our connection to
Mother Earth at a most primal level, should be held as equal to the Crown
Chakra."
When we deny the importance of the lower chakras, it does seem to cause an
imbalance.
But it's a difficult problem, isn't it! :)) Krishnamurti in *K Krishnamurti
as I Knew Him* by Susunaga Weeraperuma quotes him as saying :
"Sexual indulgence results in a dissipation of energy. Sexual suppression
aslo results in a dissipation of energy because it reduces the mind to a state
of conflict. And conflict, this battle between the powerful desire that wants
to indulge in sex and the opposing thought which says 'you must not indulge',
brings about a loss of energy. One needs a gread deal of energy for
self-examination, but this energy cannot be accumulated through sexual suppression.
There will be an abundance of energy only when the mind is without conflict.
..."
Love, Hillary
Krishnamurti goes on to say "...When it is understoood that the 'I', the
entity which had hitherto tried hard to control the movement of thought, is
itself the product of thought, then the conflict between the 'thinker' and the
thought will immediately end. Observe the illusory nature of th 'controller' of
theought. All conflict will hereupon end and a new energy will revitalize the
mind."
John Selby goes on to say, "the chakras are in fact paired, especially in the
Taoist
tradition...The Heart Chakra, number four, is the center..." He goes on to
pair the 5th (throat) and the 3rd (Solar plexus) and the sixth (Anja) with
the 2nd (sex chakra) and the 7th (crown) with the 1st (root chakra). and
says "again we find this dynamism of equal extremes balancing each other. <
snip> It is not only a spiritual violation but also an extremely dangerous
practice to try to deny the bottom chakra while fixating on the top chakra."
