Hi everyone,

Would you please be able to enlighten me on the importance of the
lineage...the 'ancestery' of Guru's and Masters of different disciplines.

Recently I've been reading and studying with different forms of Yoga and
Reiki and often the line of teachers the person has studyied under is
mentioned with great reverence...tracing the ancestery back to original
great teachers etc.

Some teachers I feel a sense of the ego slipping in...others I sense the
truth and sincereity in them. The sincere ones I feel deserve my respect
and intuition tells me to listen to what they have to say.

Because of my western approach I don't believe I have the right mental
attitude in respect of this 'ancestory'........and I would really like to
understand the importance of it from their point of view.

I'm presuming, if I were to study under this person and become a
disciple..eventually a teacher....that I somehow inherit this ancestry? and
this is considered a great honour?

Please excuse my ignorance......I don't wish to offend anyone and would
really like to show respect to those that have taken the time to help me on
my path.
