Dear Guy, Morgan, List,
Thanks for sharing this, Guy. I'm eagerly awaiting the next portion of your j
ourney! :))
Many people feel there is a distinction between the energies of prana and
that of Kundalini. For a wonderfully clear discussion of this see Kurt Keutzer's
FAQ http://www.kundalini-gateway.org/kurt/k-faq.html#1b . He discusses
three different points of view:
1. The belief that prana is a prelude to full blown K: "What's attractive
about this viewpoint is that it explains the difference between the experience
of simply having pleasant sensations in the spine and the much more powerful
experience of having a "freight-train"-like full Kundalini experience."
2. the belief they are actually the same: "that the difference is not in
the nature of the activity but in the consciousness that observes it. If the
consciousness that experiences the pranic activity is seated within the spine (or
more correctly, the central channel, known as the sushumna), then the
experience is felt much more powerfully. "
3. and still others believe that "pranic awakening is the true experience to
be aimed for and Kundalini is actually an obstruction."
My personal take is that it all has to do simply with the actual force of the
energy, and not necessarily with where the energy is located, although
usually the energy up the spine seems to be more "mind blowing." It also depends on
which "chakra" (or perhaps part of the brain) the energy is working on.
I've felt the freight train like force of the energy throughout my body/brain
(for many years it was daily) not just up the spine. The zaps I feel up my
spine, are simply pleasurable. Sort of opposite from most experiences.
But it took 3 months after the waves began to feel powerful explosions of
bliss--and three months after that when I experienced satori. I kept wondering
why my experience wasn't particularly metaphysical at the beginning, but that
too, came a bit later--with "understandings" and dreams of religious figures.
One K active friend wanted me to have pantheistic experiences. I said at the
time--"sorry! one can't choose!"
So to answer you question, Morgan, as to why one has one experience and
others another, I think it's still too early to answer that question. It may be
simply the force of the energy or where the energy hits the brain centers, or,
as Swami Tirth feels, "it is all in the consciousness that observes it." :))
There are many ways to increase the energy. Mystress's grounding page,
reading the great texts--such as Sri Ramana Maharshi's Talks or many of
Krishnamurti's works. or the thoughts of the great Christian mystics. Selby's Kundalini
Awakening a Gentle Guide to Chakra Activation and spiritual Growth has
helpful exercises.
But be careful what you wish for. :)) We are usually given what our
psyche's can easily handle! :))
Love, Hillary
