Dear Rick,
:)) That's why volunteer work can give so much satisfaction. We are simply
helping ourselves.
Perhaps relationships and chakra openings push the same buttons--release the
same chemicals depending on the emotional triggers. Social bonding certainly
provides feelings of comfort, which in turn release certain pleasurable brain
chemicals.

The dark night is not something I have (yet) experienced, but I wonder if it
is somehow connected to serotonin/dopamin levels falling off after the K highs
we experience. Perhaps it may take some time for the chemicals to
regroup--for some this may take longer than for others.

One thing is certain, though, many list members have experienced DN and come
back to again feel joy.
Remember too, that this is also the season for SAD.

An interesting article on pleasure by Helen Phillips.
"we can never be truly comfortable while we are in a pleasurable state. If
we're experiencing pleasure it's because we must need something. Take
temperature. Only if we're too hot or cold will we be able to experience the pleasure of
a cold drink or hot bath. Once our temperature has stabilised, we're
indifferent to either experience. If we are in no danger or need of any kind, we're in
a comfortable but indifferent state. "Pleasure - sensory pleasure - is not
happiness, it is joy," says Cabanac. "The state of indifference is what I call
happiness.""

Reminds me a bit of TS Eliot's Prufrock. "I heard the mermaids singing each
to each. I do not think they will sing to me." You are heard! :))

Beautiful. :)) The fact you can envision that golden splendour means it is
and always has been with you.
