Emanuela,
For general health, and *particularly* for Kundalini development, as
much water as one can *comfortably* drink (depending on the season,
body, thirst, and other factors) is strongly recommended. I drink 2 or
3 cups of water in the morning/afternoon/evening. It is not necessary
to actually measure out exactly 10 litres.
Since I don't know the guru that you refer to above, perhaps you should
ask him/her directly why it is not allowed. I would be very interested
in his/her answer. I recommend drinking water before the practice of
yoga since this will assist in the cleansing process of the exercises
and breathing.
Yoga practice without sufficient water may result in non-maximal
benefits (perhaps negative results in some cases).
Bhavin.
