Hi Kurt,
I've been fairly interested in this question too. I have read a bit about
it and my thoughts on it at the moment is that they are different.
The Taoist's believe there are 3 types of chi. One you get from food, one
you get from air and one that is a gift from both your parents. The last
one is the one I associate with Kundalini. It is internal or body prana.
They are all chi but separated by their position in life. In the food we
eat they are preblended to some degree. In this model the air is charged by
the energy of the sun.
This is in line with my experience. When Kundalini is awakened it seeks
external prana and they blend powerfully. I did a lot of really strange
breathing rythms for quite a while. I still fall into spontaneous breathing
rythms each night in bed for a period before I go to sleep.
Before Kundalini wakes up I think this blending is still happening but in a
mechanical and limited way. I think the breath is strongly linked to
Kundalini's awakening as well. Both my sister and I had spontaneous
awakenings and I think that the breathing patterns of grief and sadness
played a part in it along with intense single pointed focus on the event.
Regards,
Julie.
