Subject: [K-list] Conventional morality/gurus and sex/power
From: Sky

Gurus from the East often seem to be clueless about the underlying
prudery of our society. They see the sexy dress, flicks, flirting, and
figure that sex between consenting adults, being as basic as it it gets,
is acceptable in the guru/disciple relationship. And then they get sued.
As the Clinton/Monica scandal pointed out, Power is sexy. And women who
sleep with the powerful often are looking for some sort of power in
return. When they dont get that reward, they bite.
Trungpa Tulku, a maverick Tibetan Lama who died some years ago, slept
with many of his students. None of them complained as far as I know. He
seemed to have "known" his students and which ones could deal with a
sexual relationship. From all accounts, he was a fine teacher.
Then there are the "gurus" who use their power to take advantage of
their students' love and trust. Have read a number of accounts that were
truly horrifying.
This is why, at least in the Tibetan Buddhis tradition, one looks at a
teachers lineage. The teacher's teacher, all the way back to the Buddha.
One should maybe not look at what a teacher promises, but rather at
what the teacher and students have accomplished.
