Hi Rick -

I concur with Hety and Holly - and just to add a little more, I disagree with the popular interpretation of the old saw in Buddhism that desire is the noxious weed that keeps us lurching from one unsatisfactory pleasure to the next, and that uprooting it is the only way to liberation. And I'll even go so far as to say that desire is the only true path to liberation. I have a hard time with any system that offers liberation in any form other than simple, personal experience. And how can we have personal experience except through our personal bodies? I agree with those who say that the body is the temple and that divinity lies at its heart. I guess I guess I'd identify myself more as a tantrica -

As far as attachment to objects - I'd say watch your feeling as they arise - breathe into them with consciousness and presence - let yourself fully experience, with awareness, whatever the feelings are that are generated. Move out of the habitual activities and thoughts you usually have around them and let your passions circulate in your body - these are blessings - for these feelings can nourish the inner flame that burns away the egotistical perception of the mind. Use this energy, don't flee from it! From my perspective (and desire >;-) the crux is to attain consciousness, presence -- and beyond this, there is no goal.

love,
Ana Maria
