Does anyone have an abnormal effect with alcohol if they are going

I used to pride myself on my ability to drink beer; well, as long as I was
outside, preferably on a boat on water, when I could happily consume up to
four, five, sometimes six beer without too much trouble. Canadian beer, eh?
*laughs* In a nice dark bar, at night ... maybe three before I could count
on trouble. I used to tell people how I passed a self-taught correspondence
course in beer-drinking with honours. *grins*
Now?! One beer! And that pretty much guarantees me, at the least, a heavy
head and loose bowels the next day. Not to mention the loose mouth when I
drink it. *ahems*
One thing I learned in physiology lends credence to my current belief the
stuff is poison. (And my current belief has -nothing- to do with my current
inability to drink my favourite brew. *ahems loudly*) Alcohol makes the
cell membrane more hydrophilic ('water loving') -- hence the expression
'water on the brain' attributed to alcoholics, particularly end-stage. Now
I wouldn't want to go head-to-head with a biologist or physiologist with my
theory ... but here's what I think. Water is more electrically-friendly
than fat, and when you increase the potential water-solubility in the body,
you increase the electrical potential, as it were. Drinking alcohol does
this and it results, imo, in a change in the potassium-sodium balance (it's
all about ions). Because this balance is crucial to homeostasis, even small
alterations can result in profound changes.
I don't have the means to prove this theory of mine -- other than, perhaps,
by having more than one beer, which I'm not about to do -- but it makes
intuitive sense to me. I'd like to be proven wrong; in fact, I'd like
someone to come along and make me privy to some simple little secret that'd
totally negate all the harmful effects I experience when I have that
much-loved cold Canadian beer this summer. *whines loudly*
Jude ... living dry and not truly loving it .... ;^>
