Subject: [K-list] Land of 10,000 Buddhas... ebay!

I recently did a google search, looking for Buddha images to mess with
for a website design I am working on, during breaks from nest building.
The biggest hit... Ebay! 9000 Buddha icons for sale there, and pictures
of all of them. Multiple pictures of some of them. Sculptures and paintings
and coins, fat Buddhas and thin Buddhas and many armed Buddhas and female
Buddhas and Buddhas of every imaginable material. Buddha hands and Buddha
heads and Buddhas having sex. Even a Buddha mooning the viewer!
I got the pix I needed and really enjoyed surveying the incredible
variety of iconography and varied images. Some of them with quite detailed
descriptions of the history and meaning of the art.
Re: Evil... in my view, it does not exist. There is only fear, and
people acting from fear. Of course, it depends on how you define evil. In
the West, ideas of Evil usually relate to the concept of some head honcho
demonic Satan bad guy, conveniently placed for people to blame things on
and avoid responsibility. "The devil made me do it!" ... or, as an excuse
for some other behavior. Saying the other side is "evil" kind of goes with
the territory of any war. Does not make it true.
That is my opinion, and I am not particularly interested in defending
or debating it. I'd rather paint my bookshelves.
On a related note... the list traffic has been gently straying into the
forbidden territory of politics... I can understand the desire to post on
the topic, but this list is not the place for it. An outlet for political
expression has been created: The K-politics list. Subscribe:

My shadow side, whom I call Armand, takes the form of a 15th century
Romanian prince, Vlad Dracul... he was the inspiration for Dracula, and in
fiction, has been the personification of evil for its own sake ever since.
Dracul means "dragon" and he took the name because he was a member of a
Masonic type order created by the Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund. Dracul can
also be translated as "Devil." (Demon > Daemon > Inner Self)
He is also called "Vlad the Impaler" because his favorite punishment
for wrongdoers was to execute them by slow impalement on a large stake...
he preferred multiple impalements, as dinner entertainment. Sounds
excessive to us, but was not so unusual for the time and place he lived in.
Despite what the rest of the world may think of him, he is remembered
warmly, as a beloved historic hero by the Romanian people, because he held
off the Turks and brought crime to a standstill. His punishments were
extreme, but he had a strong sense of justice. The lot of a peasant in any
feudal society in those times was desperate, but he was apparently a much
better leader than most. He also established several monasteries.
Perception of Evil is very subjective...

(So logically, if she weighs the same as a duck, shes made of wood. And
