Perhaps that's why MMY prefers to call them "sidhis",
with only one 'd'... :)
But seriously, the TM "sidhis" are derived from
Patanjali's Yoga suutras. The third book of YS is called
Vibhuuti-paada. The first four suutras of it define the technique
called "sanyama" (when the pandits pronounce that word
it almost sounds to me like "sayyama"[sigh-yama]):

(simplified transliteration)
1. desha-bandhash cittasya dhaaranaa
2. tatra pratyayaika-taanataa dhyaanam
3. tad evaartha-maatra-nirbhaasam svaruupa-
shuunyam iva samaadhih
4. trayam ekatra *sanyamah*

I guess most people interested in yoga have
seen the words "dharana , dhyana and samadhi".
They are defined ,as it were, in the above suutras.
The fourth suutra sez that dharana, dhyana and samadhi
together form sanyama. (the three together [make] sanyama)

There are several translations of Yoga-suutras,
for instance I.K.Taimni, The Science of Yoga.

Now, most of the TM "sidhis" seem to contain or
imply the word "sanyama", e.g:

27. bhuvaana-jnaanam suurye sanyamaat (ablative case
form of "sanyama"). Taimni translates this like:
Knowledge of the Solar system by performing sanyama
on the Sun.

The suutra 38 of the third book goes like:

38. te samaadhaav upasargaa vyutthaane siddhayah
Taimni: they are obstacles in the way of samaadhi
and powers when the mind is outward-turned.

Now, the referent of the demonstrative pronoun
"te" (they) is not totally clear to me, whether
it refers only to the previous suutra or all the
suutras describing "powers" before it.
Anyhow, the word "siddhayah" is the nominative
plural of the word "siddhi", thus that suutra could
equally well be translated like "they are ...siddhis
when the mind is outward-turned".
