Dear OMA
It is very good to see young people like you
talking and arguing about the presence or absence of God,
validity or otherwise of religion or science etc.
Atheism and agnosticism are stages in the unfoldment of the Spirit
That you are an odd stranger is also very good
But, it must be along the right lines
But, one must quieten one's vital energy
And, make it yield to the process of surrender to God
Then, all the youth will pass divinely without the sensual agitations
Also, it is not good to argue too much
For, it wastes one's vital energy and drains one's mental faculties
The right course could be to inwardly enquire into everything that comes
into you from the environment
And, present that flame of inquiry as the question 'Is that so?' to others
That is, one need not forcefully reject anything outwardly
For, that implies a certain weakness in the vital energy which is getting
attracted to the very thing it is denouncing
One must constantly discriminate between the worthwhile and the worthless
Choicelessly seeing the worthless quietens the vital
and brings it under the power of the inner soul
which knows things in a single vision
unlike the groping vital and the divisive mind
The rejection must occur clearly from within
with a great certitude that is the nature of the soul
It is then that argumentativeness can cease
You might find it worthwhile to peruse
the electronic text 'Synthesis of Yoga' by Sri Aurobindo
Intellect that shines is only the lower vital swinging along the sides of
the spine
One must guard against this tendency
It cause the imbalance of the emotion and the ordinary reason
One must purify and develop reason so much
that the outcome of reason and emotion will be the same
It is then the divine intuition can flow unimpeded
Also be on guard against the usage of inappropriate words
Equanimity and non-violence are the passive foundation
Love towards all and righteousness are the dynamic projection
Kind words constitute the link between the passive and the dynamic
Inappropriate words absorbed during teenage from the environment
mostly relating to sensuality and violence shake the passive foundation
and corrupt the dynamic divine projection and manifestation
Be alert and discriminate constantly and counteract this evil from outside
Regular reading of the Bible and application of the Lord's commands
can safely course you through this difficult period
Yours sincerely
RK Shankar
