Dear OMA,

In my experience, as one becomes more "spiritually tuned" by the energy, love
and compassion for others (and of course for ourselves!), becomes axiomatic.
While we do become more *aware* of the ego and the effects of it, we are also
able to see it for what it is--separation from others and the joy of simply
being. All the slights and injuries we may experience no longer have the
same effect on us because they don't touch our core. We are, indeed, allowed
to "be who we really are," but this is coming to terms with who we really
are. The enjoyment of hating and being hated--rejecting love-- is simply a
defensive, protective mechanism. Loving your fellow man becomes automatic
once you see below the surface. I don't mean sweetness and light. I mean
understanding and compassion for ourselves and for others.

Which doesn't mean, of course, that there is anything wrong with playing the
anti-hero for a while! :)) I just don't think it's where you will ultimately
find satisfaction since I see you as thoughtful and caring. You are young
enough to go through many different transformations of who you think you are
until you find a place that is most comfortable.
