Actually, the perception of location *is* in the brain.
People with missing limbs demonstrate this fact
when feeling sensations in the area of where their missing extremity would be.
Furthermore, every feeling part of the body can be directly stimulated
by prodding it's corresponding part in the brain.
(folks don't try this at home unless you have a magnetic helmet)
When you touch a hot oven
a neural signal follows along
a path wired to the brain.
The brain responds with the sensation of pain
and creates the *impression* that the pain is occurring
in your hand.
The locale aspect is entirely subjective
and consequently is learned and reinforced
with neural connections.
Castaneda talks about the energy body
(the luminous egg)
which envelopes the physical body.
This field around body
actually corresponds to the universe
the same way that the brain corresponds to
the body and it's locality.
By learning how to move ~awareness~
through the layers of one's luminous egg
one taps into and experiences corresponding
astral realms.
All metaphor of course.
Totally useful or useless depending
on, well...
