Hi! My philosophy class has been studying Descartes, Meditations on First Philosophy, the mind vs. body falls right into his second meditation: concerning the nature of the human mind: that it is better known than the body. Descartes states that in his opinion, the body is less known than the mind because the mind must be used to know the body, that everything comes through the mind. As I see it the brain is apart of the body therefore Descartes would seem to agree that the brain must be separated from the mind. I would add that the mind is far greater than the brain in my opinion but the two go hand in hand even though they are so far apart. I'm not sure what I think about my mind not being my mind. This I will defientnly give some thought. If anyone could expand on their opinions I'd love it, this is a very interesting subject. I am going to try to pick up a copy of "The Last Talks" by J. Krishnamurti, it sounds really interesting and enlightening. A thinking book :) The notion of our existance all gods dream is quite intreging! Thanks for the great posts! Have a good day! -Katie-

Coincidentally :)) I was just reading "The Last Talks" by J Krishnamurti. Here's what he said on the subject...
"Here, we must separate the brain from the mind. The brain is the centre of all our nerves, all our knowledge, all our theories, opinions, prejudices... is there a difference between that brain and the mind? Imo, Yes there is a difference. "That" brain is just a biological computer. Without mind, it cannot function at all. The brain is just a storehouse of processed information, its function is to serve the human animal. Beyond the physical dimension mind does not depend upon the brain for its information. The Mind itself is a reservoir of infinite information and part of the collective consciousness of All.

>>The brain will always be limited...This brain which is conditioned by knowledge, by experience, by tradition, cannot have any communication with the mind which is totally outside the activity of the brain. That mind can communicate with the brain, but the brain cannot communicate with...[the mind]-- the mind is too immense because it doesn't belong to you; it's not your mind. p. 96
>>I like this statement that Krishnaji makes. It reminds me of the concept of "All is in the Mind of God." Maybe God is Dreaming, and that we are only a part of That Dream. We may think; have opinions; ideas, etc, but in the end it all belongs to God. -- So, are we His Dreamt Creation? One can only wonder!
