THE LIST IS MOVING!
Soon, the list will be moving to a different server and a much better mailing list program. It is my hope to make this process as smooth as possible, but the list and website will be unavailable for a short time. List addresses will remain the same. The transition will probably occur within 24 hours, but it is impossible to predict exactly.
WHY THE LIST WILL BRIEFLY BE UNAVAILABLE:
When a web domain is moved to a new server, it becomes unavailable while the DNS propagates. DNS stands for domain name server. Propagation means every internet provider on the planet has to update their list of domain IP addresses. It is like updating a telephone directory. The process usually takes a few hours to two days, depending on how soon each individual host processes the update.
SUBSCRIPTIONS:
Current members will be automatically added to the new list once the domain is active. You will receive a welcome message, with useful addresses and a password so that no-one else will be able to mess with your subscription. Your email address is your username. The new system has an admin web page for adjusting your subscription, and you can change your password.
SUBSCRIPTION ADMINISTRATION PAGE:
You will not be able to access the password protected admin page or post to the list until your provider has updated its DNS list. If the page appears to be down when you try to visit, wait a while (2-24 hours) and try again.

The new list has a mime and attachment free digest option. (yay!)
ATTACHMENTS AND SECURITY
The subscriptions will still be moderated, but posting is not.
I am unable to set the main list to automatically remove mime, styled text or attachments. They will be removed from the digests.
A brief survey of k-list posts from my archives showed that 99% are under 22k in length. A survey of deleted viruses in my trash bin showed none under 28k. So, I have set a posting length limit of 22k, which should effectively prevent attachments and viruses from being posted to the list.
ARCHIVES AND NO-MAIL OPTION.
The new list will have private web archives accessible to members only, using your email address as username and your admin password. It will also have a no-mail option. You can access them both from the web admin page.
ALMOST WEB-ONLY!
Those who miss the "web-only" option at yahoogroups will be able to subscribe to the list, set their subscription to "no-mail" and read posts at the web archive. Clicking on the list address or the author address at the top of the post will bring up your email client so you may post a response to the list or the author, just like for an email address on any web page.
It will not reproduce the subject line or quote the text of the email you are responding to. (Automatic snippage! ) Please type in the subject. Paste the quoted email into your response if you think it is necessary.
PUBLIC ARCHIVES.
This years list archives will be moved to the public archive section of the gateway at year end, just as always.
