Interesting assumption. I think my Shamanic experiences are more useful in this regard. As I understand it, the fear invoked in some sleep paralysis experiences is partly biochemical-neurological. There is no choice or logic involved. It is not simply fear of being immobilized, so much as a very primal fear that is triggered, along with the immobility.
The big difference is one of consensuality... and that is a very big difference indeed, like the difference between sex and rape. Bondage fetishists have deliberately sought the experience, and can safeword out of the situation at any time. They are not really out of control... some say the sub is really the one in charge of the situation.
Sleep paralysis comes without asking, it is a different kind of out of control feeling, and an unreasoning fear born of brain stimulation. There is no human to safeword to, and the intensity of the fear is much greater than what the average fetishist is looking for.
I would say, it probably has a closer relationship with what some awakened folks experience, if they face the doorway to ego death too soon. All the hidden fears of karma coming up all at once, can really make you wig out... but it is not really the same as that, either.

Exactly... it is a celebration of fear, like skydiving or bungee jumping. Sought, not forced.

Perhaps... it is my observation that submissive personalities are gifted, when it comes to K. because surrender and submission comes more naturally to them. Dominants won't surrender till they have no other option, so they get beaten into it. Even so... when it comes to the kind of unreasoning fear that is produced by some types of sleep paralysis, the playing field is leveled.

I don't think it is equivalent. It appears to me that you are generalizing in order to draw parallels that are not really appropriate. While there are many kinds of sleep paralysis, the most troubling is the one which comes with the mindless intense fear. I get different kinds of gentle sleep paralysis too, but I do not get the fear that they other types contain.
As an aspect of my ADD, I go into a light, momentary catatonic state many times a day. I'm usually not even aware of it. Leave the body to get insights and come back to speak or write. Because I'm not in my body at the time, there is no problem with the immobility... but being bound is not fun for me at all. Perhaps because it is external. Even so, being bound does not limit me from action, because I have power of being able to affect others at a distance.

I don't think so. Again, one is a consensual, controlled experience and the other is not.

Me too. Wonderful lethargy.

No. However, there is an interesting connection between bondage and OBE, especially when combined with sensory deprivation.
