OK, here is the story of what happened to Christianity:
Around 500 AD, a Roman wanna-be emperor (Constantine) was told by spirits that he would win control of Rome, if he battled under the sign of the crucifix. At that time, the symbol of Christianity was the fish. (Yoni!) He did win, and promptly set about persecuting Christians unless they rearranged the religion to suit his political agenda... and once his agenda was attained, set about persecuting everybody else till they converted to his idea of Christianity.
These arrangements were the Councils of Constantinople, and they edited and rearranged the Bible to suit themselves, and executed anyone who disagreed, as a heretic. Executed a whole lot of Gnostics...! They took out reincarnation, references to "God the Mother", and a whole lot of other stuff that they thought the peasants could not understand. They established the priestly hierarchies.
Constantine himself, was not a Christian and only accepted baptism on his deathbed.
Robert Anton Wilson refers to this as Christianity being infected by a virus/parasite. Mark Twain says "Christianity would be a great religion... if anyone ever tried it!".
Do a search on "Council of Constantinople" and you will find quite a lot of information about it. The Romans tended to keep excellent records, as did the church so the changes made are archived. There are also older documents, 1st century writings and the dead sea scrolls (Mostly old testament) that have been uncovered to provide a clearer picture of what Christianity looked like before the councils.
"A camel is a horse designed by a committee."
Every wonder why Jesus said to ignore the 10 commandments and only focus on love of God and neighbor.. yet the 10 commandments are still around? The council put them back.

There were some references they missed, one is a talk Jesus had with his disciples about who they thought he had been, in a past life. I cannot quote the exact reference, but Peter's response pleases him best, and he says Peter is the rock that the church will be built upon. Obviously, they would not have had that discussion if there was no belief in reincarnation. Deleting references to reincarnation made it easier to use the hostage threat of Hell to control the populace. No second chances...
Blessings...
