On 2003/01/19 08:45, Laura posted thus to the K-list:

My boyfriend is currently in the throes of a manic psychosis. It apparently began last Sunday. He told me about it on Wednesday but the more I tried to reality check with him the more he pushed me away.

He says he is dialogueing with God and that God will walk the earth this Monday and paradise on earth will reign.

He apparently has some history of bipolar disorder but has had only two or three episodes in the last 30 years.

I asked him if he thought this could be some sort of spiritual awakening and he said yes, he is God's anointed.

I asked him if God doesn't, for whatever reason, walk the earth on Monday, would he consent to get medical attention and he told me not to contact him anymore until Tuesday. He didn't say whether or not he would seek help.

He lives alone and I don't think he is in danger or is a danger to others but I am worried about him.

Has anybody on this list had a similar experience and can you give me any advice as to how best to deal with the situation?

I am worried, sad, and lonely. I feel bereft and helpless. We have been seeing each other for only about 6 months and he never told me he had any history of bipolar disorder until this past week. He did not say whether or not he takes medication for it.

I would really appreciate whatever support or advice anyone can give.
