Oh no, don't do that! That's to expensive. Don't spend a hundred dollars on aluminum foil for the whole house. Just one small sheet will make enough for hat which will be good protection wherever you go. .........:^) But seriously folks...
I believe there is one chapter in Autobiography of a Yogi that describes a Swami as intentionally attempting to achieve this paralysis state. I can't remember the exact details and my copy is out at my ashram. Can someone else who has a copy at hand verify this?
Also, and I can't remember if it was AoaY or another book, but it described surrendering to the paralysis state to the point of your heart slowing down to a ridiculously slow rate. It also mentions a "fetal heart" that is still present in adults. It is a tiny organ behind the heart. Apparently, some adepts can actually stop the heart and let the fetal heart work pump the blood for the absolute minimum needs of the body. This is the "suspended animation" state that some adepts are able to achieve that minimizes their need for food and oxygen. Thus we have stories of Swamis intentionally having themselves buried alive for days at a time and emerging from their self-imposed interment unscathed.
I do recall one story from AoaY that tells of Yogananda finding Sri Yukteswar in this state of suspendend animation. Yogananda could find no pulse and when he put a mirror to Yukteswars mouth, he could detect no breath. Yogananda collapses grieving for his dead master until Yukteswar wakes up and laughs at him.
This explanation however does not shed any light on the frightening aspect of the situation. As a guess, this would be and feel like a particularly vulnerable state for anyone. So when you sense another entity it could feel threatening, no matter the disposition of the entity towards you.
Fear is horrible thing. It can make you turn on your best friend for no reason at all if fall into its trap. When these kinds of fears have come upon me in the past I have found it useful to remember that I am a Holy Child of the Divine....and so are you! The most dreadful thing that one of these nuisances has ever done is make me afraid. I believe that is their only power. Fear can be a powerful motivator. So be careful how you react to your fear.
Sit back, take a deep breath and remember your own Divinity. Invoke Holy protection if need be...All things happen for your benefit. With regard to ourselves, it is only our own projections and desires for a specific method to achieve a specific outcome that defines what is "good and evil." With regard to others, it is best to consider karmic repercussions of our path. If we can trust that the universe has us on the swiftest path to self-awareness, then we can trust that our experiences are merely lessons along the way...even if they scare the poo-poo out of us.
