Feeling you're going crazy -- gee, what a unique experience for a K. person
-- LOL. I used to fear I was losing it and would get these panic attacks,
which would just serve as fuel for the fire -- like the Ouroboros --
consuming myself. Even when the feeling wasn't present, I lived with the
constant anxiety that it would recur.
Oh, but that was so long ago. Living in the moment, learning to channel the
energy thru Kriya Yoga, and letting go of the ego's desire to control
resulted in the transformation of fear into bliss. The greatest horror had
become the greatest blessing; loosing control had become transcendental
awareness, and an answer to the age-old question about life and death.

This "closing the door" seems to be a key point. As physicist David Bohm
says (and I paraphrase), "things are valid only within their own realm".
Did Newtonian physics suddenly become wrong in 1905 when Einstein published
his Theory of Relativity? No. Newton's formulas still works in the realm
of cars and apples (low mass and low velocity), but they break down in the
realm of subatomic particles and celestial bodies (high velocity and large
mass). v = d / t works for cars, but when measuring the speed of electrons
you have to use Lorentz transformations and factor in the speed of light.
It's the same with mixing the astral realm with the physical realm. You run
into problems. If you take LSD, opening the floodgates of the subconscious
and releasing the inner gods and demons into your waking consciousness,
you're asking for trouble. If you try to discuss 12-strand etheric DNA with
a biologist, he/she is going to regard you as a crackpot. So, when entering
different realms, be sure to close the door behind you.

I don't think the reality of brain wiring theories and astral experiences
are mutually excusive. They're just different realms. Thus, you don't have
to make a choice between accepting one or the other. They're both valid
within the appropriate context.

Ah, this is key. The problem with all the reductionist, mono-materialist,
cognitive theories is that they don't adequately account for this simple and
obvious attribute we all possess -- awareness. Developments in artificial
intelligence (AI) are resulting in increasingly sophisticated programs, but
they do all their information processing blindly. They are not aware of
what they are doing. Many cognitive scientists believe that awareness will
simply emerge from AI once a certain level of complexity has been reached,
but having been a programmer for over 25 years myself, I just don't see how
this is possible. How is a conscious observer going to suddenly appear from
blind mechanical processing algorithms?
The materialists wait for neuroscience to eventually explain the nature of
consciousness, just as many mainstream Christians wait for the return of
Jesus. Yet I doubt either group will get what they expect. The
materialists will realize the nature of consciousness in a flash of insight,
and the mainstream Christians will see the return of Christ like "lightning,
which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other" -- Luke
17:24, not in physical form, but in the realization of ones true Self.
