Welcome! and welcome all other newcomers. :))

All this sounds *very* familiar! :)) I've experienced very little visual
phenomena, but many others here certainly have. LOVE is an integral part of
the K experience.

I wouldn't say there are names for different kinds of kundalini
energy--something maybe we should all think about--but your experiences
certainly come under the designation of Kundalini!

Uses of K energy are varied: healing, artistic pursuits, and simply ecstatic
*being* among them. Sometime I'd love to do a poll on "uses of K energy!"

As far as timeline is concerned, everyone seems a little different. I
experience cycles of the energy often based on moon cycles. There seems to
be a spiral effect for many--getting "used to" the energy for a time and then
experiencing even stronger bursts of it. Traditionally various chakra's are
"opened" as blocks are released, although I haven't personally experienced
this. Eventually, I think we come back to "chop wood, carry water."

Usually the energy itself will give you guidance. Surrendering to the energy
is almost always the best road to take, no matter where that road leads. :)) There is a poll we did on progression of K energy which might interest you:
