Dear Michael,
For me, meditation and yogic practice can't compare to walking! Actually, they mean the same things as walking, to me. While walking I've received my greatest inspirations. The first major inspiration was a realization that when every single person in existence on 'this' planet has a thought of love --------- ZAP! The end of this movie and the beginning of the next...again. The second inspiration came in the form of a Buddhist koan. While I was walking, breathing to my steps, I 'saw' myself as a part of everything. I was everything and nothing at the same time. 'Twas very hard for my little brain to comprehend and that's the best translation I can come up with, but it was more than a knowing, it was an experience. I walked home in 70-something degree morning desert air with chills, literally.
If I had to explain anything about those experiences, I would say that the walking, my morning sadhana, combined with my breath and walking directly on the sand/earth road (grounding), produces a pretty compelling energy -- that keeps me walking!
Best,
Hety
