Subject: [K-list] I pray
From: Shellelr
On 2002/11/13 06:28, Shellelr posted thus to the K-list: Not as much as I used to, because I do usually see the bigger picture.
First, and mostly, I pray with gratitude. Then I sometimes ask for things to
be a little easier in some way, if possible.
When my sister-in-law had to have a bone marrow transplant last year, I
prayed like crazy. My husband had already lost his brother to AIDS and his
mom to ovarian cancer in the past 5 years. I read of the Duke studies that
say prayer works and I sent e-requests for prayer for her to the Little
Sisters of Clare in Wales and a prayer to be printed and stuck in the Wall in
Jerusalem. I asked my fundamentalist dad to have his church pray for her. I
did all of this knowing that the whole deal is part of her/our karma, etc.
And yes, it was selfish, too, because seeing her suffer and die would have
been very painful for me and maybe the last straw for my husband.
I pray a lot, for all of us, about 9/11, war against Iraq, guns, you name it.
There is some combination of my pain/the world's pain going on with that.
In spite of the fact that I know things probably have to play out the way
they're going to, whatever that is.
Sometimes I still want to pray.
