Hi Holly2,
All the sensations you describe are well documented in the K-G archives.
Nothing to be concerned about unless you don't want to evolve. :^)
When I first started doing Kriya Yoga, I would occasionally get "shaking
fits". It seemed like I was going through the DT's of a recovering
alchoholic. These would last about 5 minutes and scare the crap out of me.
Then they would subside and I would feel VERY relaxed and warm. So after the
second time, I took my attention off of my body when it happened and just
stayed centered in my head. I don't know how to describe it other than "the
witness state" but that doesn't seem quite right. I just let go of conscious
control of my body and just let it shake. This allowed two things to happen:
1. The shaking smoothed out a little to more of a vibration-like feeling and
2. The duration became substantially shorter, down to about 2 minutes. It
happened maybe another 9 or 10 times after that and I haven't been troubled
with it since.
Your body does funny (odd) things with energy. Energy follows intention. If
you have no conscious intention then the energy moves erratically.
Familiarize yourself with the feeling of the energy moving through your body,
then you can learn to direct it by focusing your attention on one part of the
body. Initially, in Kriya Yoga, we learn to focus it inside the spine and
clear the sushumna and the ida/pingala nadis. Then we work outward.
On meditation at night: I was the same way for a while. The night seemed
much more conducive to meditation than daytime. I was always looking for
excuses to go out to my ashram and stay the night to meditate away from
streetlights and traffic sounds. As fatherhood has moved closer and closer,
I have had to give that up for the time being. You can start just stilling
your mind for a couple of minutes 2 or 3 times a day. Then lengthen the
time.
It's getting almost automatic now for me. Many times when my mind is not
significantly engaged, it will now kick into a simple meditation. Rather
annoying while driving. :^) Just practice it a few times and pretty soon you
won't care if it's light or dark, all you will be looking for is that "peace
of mind".
Sincerely,
Jason B
