"And what Freedom greater shall there be, than that which lies in the courage
and the confidence, nay the charity of receiving?
"See first that you yourself deserve to be a giver, and an instrument of
giving.
"For in truth it is life that gives unto life--while you, who deem yourself a
giver, are but a witness.
"And you receivers--assume no weight of gratitude, lest you lay a yoke upon
yourself and upon him who gives.
"Rather rise together with the giver on his gifts as on wings.
"For to be overmindful of your debt is to doubt the his generosity who has
the free-hearted Earth for a mother and God for a father."

My guru refers to this whole concept of karma/giving/receiving "The Law of
Jot and Tittle"
In other words, it is like you keep a ledger with all your gifts as +'s to
your karma and all your receivings as -'s...like balancing your checkbook.
Unfortuneately it is not possible to keep track of everything you have ever
given or received. So the whole effort is in vain. And what if you gave
something to someone with good intent, but it wound up hurting them--say you
gave them a hammer and they broke their thumb with it trying to drive a nail
in the wall.....are you responsible for putting that in your ledger too? So
every little mark in either column has to be accounted for this way, thus the
name "Jot and Tittle".
It's all about being able to move past the "keeping track" part. Give and
receive without attachment. This can be accomplished by knowing that the
universe is unconditionally loving to all creatures. If you want true
freedom, emulate this. If you give gladly when asked and receive gladly when
something is offered freely, then why should you bother keeping track? The
universe doesn't keep track, because the universe is abundant.
Surrender to the Abundance.
