regarding ego and detachment. In the highest state of meditation, I
can feel my consciousness expanding beyond my physical body --
superconsciousness, if you will. During that state, I feel a
profound oneness with other people, the earth, the universe, et al.
Thus, my sense of self (ego) doesn't go away, it just expands to
become the Self. Even during normal walking consciousness, I feel
this to some degree -- like a pleasant meditation hangover.
I used to think that obtaining higher states of consciousness would
mean transcending the physical and would involve detachment from it,
like a quantum leap from the physical to the spiritual. Meditation
has loosened the bonds between these two states, and I suppose I
could "cross over" and detach myself from the physical if I applied
enough effort. Yet, I prefer a sense of being that encompasses
both, in a holistic unity (if that doesn't sound too pompous :)). So
for me, ego has been transformed, and I haven't become detached,
just expanded.Peace and Love,
Ken
