Your comment about reflection was my point exactly. I'm very grateful to
Sai Baba for helping me to see the flaw in my character. There can be
highly positive outcomes by being in relationship with a guru (or anyone for
that matter), but one has to be willing to take responsibility for him- or
herself and accept all faults as well as good points. Sai Baba was
reflecting this back to me, and it took me 2.5 years to finally acknowledge
that I was responsible for letting people control me, and therefore I was
responsible for changing it. If He hadn't intervened in my life the first
time in 1998, I would have killed myself with drugs and alcohol. Though I
don't consider myself a devotee, I have a lot of respect for Him.

I hear what you're saying about the worship bit. That's the thing that
doesn't appeal to me about His set-up, but I'm not sure if my beef is with
Him or with His followers. However, I have to admit that I've had some very
amazing experiences at His ashram, especially when I was there alone during
Siva Ratri. He continues to tell people not to worship Him, that He doesn't
want to create a new religion. His aim is to reflect divinity in all who
come to him and to show people that love is all there is. Perhaps lots of
'gurus' say that, I don't know.

I think it depends on the lenses through which experiences are viewed. I
try to see both the positive and the negative where possible. This can
create difficulty, but I think it's more balanced.
