One of my many interests is mineralology, and I would like to let
everyone know that there are still places where you can find your
own stones, dig them up right from the earth yourself. Who knows
where that stone from the new age or Discovery Channel store has
been? Don't vegitables grown in your own garden taste a lot better
than the ones from the supermarket?

You might start by searching the web. Some key words are:
rockhound, minerology, lapidary (that's more gem cutting related,
but brings up a lot of links), the name of the mineral (tourmaline,
quartz or rock crystal, etc.). Although I've usually done my rock
collecting independently, the easiest way to get started is to find
a local rockhounding club. These groups usually have their own
claims and it will help you avoid getting shot at for trespassing or
claim jumping.
