I'm going to take on Joe here. IMHO, the text RK Shankar quotes not only
states the rechanneling of "awareness" into the Shushuma, but certainly also
implies the merging of the energies of Ida and Pingala with Shushuma.

RK Shankar is speaking from experience, and Joe is not, as far as I have been
able to observe. People's experiences are IMO what we all learn from most. My experience has usually been feeling the energy throughout the body. But
when I do feel it in the spine, it is in one current only.

This is not to say there may not be separate channels, but that, perhaps, the
most profound experiences are when the energies from the Ida and Pingala
merge with the central channel.

Whether or not the channels are *concrete* seems to be somewhat at the core
of this issue. Obviously the channels, as well as the chakras and K energy
itself can all be both concrete and metaphorical, depending on the states of
awareness. And when Satguru Sivaya Subramuniya Swami says ENTIRE
CIRCUMFERENCE OF AWARENESS it would seem to refer to concrete awareness also. You seem to be unnecessarily on the warpath again, Joe! :))

Then you have no supports. Reread what you quote and you will find nowhere
does it say Ida and Pingala merge with Sushumna!

I'll grant you this his English isn't the best. But it is clear enough that
it is plain to see he never talks, not once, **even metaphorically** about
Ida and Pingala merging into Sushumna. He speaks of rechanneling awareness.
