Sounds like a brown recluse to me. According to my husband they have a
"hemotological poison" (whatever that is) that slowly destroys flesh.

 They hang out in out of the way, seldom used places, like backs of closets
and dark corners, and behind drawers. They are shy, but will bite if their
space is invaded (or if they are about to get rolled on). Their bodies are
a fiddle shape. The idea is to look first, then reach under or behind
something.
