Here is what I wrote.
Maybe this might help someone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I know a lot of people ask about how to surrender. How does one
actually do it? Somehow at times just saying, "I surrender" doesn't
seem enough although that is where having a human surrogate helps and
guides one.
Surrogates have a long history in religious and spiritual history if
you want to talk about gurus, priestesses, priests, nuns, and even
charismatic Christian leaders and the Church. These have always
traditionally stood in place of God/dess.
We can go into states, governments, parenthood and other examples for
authority figures to surrender to. That is basically what surrender
is...giving power to someone or something to have authority over you
in your recognition of their supposedly greater experience, wisdom
and knowledge. This at it most basic is just a power exchange which
you are probably already familiar with. There have been quite a few
articles written about power and it's exchange in many different
contexts.
But, as we know, what we might call surrender and what is truly
authentic genuine surrender can be totally different experiences. I
will seek instead to define authentic surrender.
As a registered nurse I have people surrender to me all day and every
day based on their respect of my position of authority, knowledge,
and wisdom. Some are better at it than others. Those who are better
at it heal more quickly. There is an implied contract in
there: "Listen to me and do what I say and you will get better
faster. You will also learn how to prevent such difficulties from
happening in the future."
This does not mean that people give up their common sense and become
stupid for me. Some people do but that is not what I want. I want
them to become self empowered in making health care decisions and
choices for themselves. This way they will create as much an optimum
healing environment for themselves as they can.
What I am writing about is the process of surrender. Surrender is
predicated on choosing and acceptance. Think of choosing as making
decisions based on specific goals one has. Acceptance is a further
evolution of choosing. Another way to coin acceptance is with the
phrase, "letting go". I think of letting go as one of those phrases
that people have difficulty with as they do with the word surrender.
Letting go or acceptance has several main characteristics: (1) giving
in to what is occurring; (2) letting go or ceasing to fix the
disturbance or problem in our lives, and (3) surrendering or _passing
control_ to another.
(paraphrased from the book _Healing Touch_ by Hover-Kramer)
One one has done these things there will come over one a feeling of
relaxation and loss of tension. This is how you know you are in the
process of surrender. There is relief and relaxation and in spiritual
practices, joy and bliss.
This takes practice. It doesn't matter if you are male or female in
the surrender process. Your genes and socialization may make the
process feel differently and be expressed differently but the main
characteristics or tasks are still there.
Even those who are dominant and spiritual like myself have surrendered to the Divine although mine was an inner Divine Masculine.
By surrendering to the movement of Kundalini being expressed in my
life in all it's forms led me to my experience of surrendering to the
Divine Masculine. My experience of surrendering to the Divine
Masculine was deeply mystical and incredibly orgasmic. He choose to
appear to me in the form of the god, Shiva and I was his Shakti. This
was before I knew anything at all about Tantra. I knew absolutely
nothing of it when I was having these experiences. It was only later
that I saw the correspondances with Tantra.
You will have to decide for yourself if you want to learn surrender
through the agency of priestess or guru. (It seems most people do.)
Or if you want to have a solitary practice with iconic
representations of the Divine Feminine. One is not better than the
other and you will know in your heart which calls to you.
