Cringed as I heard
the voice
on the answering machine,

   ...it was mine.

I'm too outrageous
for my own good,
stirring pots,
salting wounds
and tickling funny bones.

I'm giving up popping balloons
at children's birthday parties.

Least for now,
'til they start dozing off again...

Until then...
I will be a clown.

Here...
have a balloon animal.
