Hi all,
A lot of great responses on attunements. Thanks for all your thoughts I have
each letter saved. I'm still mulling over the thought that reiki may be
related although no the same as kundalini.

Let me explain briefly. The energy used in reiki (ki ?) is intuitive, and
comes from above entering the crown, filtering through the third eye and on
down to the heart where it is passed out through the hands. The attunements
appear to open this upper pathway.

The energy in alternative occult practices cultivate 'lower chakra'
energies. The alternative healers in the philipines for example- commonly
practice storing of energy in the navel, which is brought up from the root
chakra, and passing it up through the heart and out the hands which appears
in the form of electric currents or magnetism. This appears to open the
lower pathways of energy.

I don't know where the heart chakra or the point above the head comes in..
but it seems as though kundalini is opening the entire pathway, the
shushumna in all it's layers. Although I don't hear much about the point
above the head (bindu?) I do hear alot about the pathway which goes up from
the root and bends at the third eye though. Maybe because its one of the
smallest pathways and needs opening ?

Anyway I was just thinking that the upper pathways thin out and arent easy
to open- so since reiki attunements open these up (akin to a spiritual
asthma puffer :) ) perhaps this lets energy flow through more smoothly.

Then I started churning over the whole man's triune 3 fold nature belief..
and the 5 fold manifestation, 7 fold creation and 3 fold balance. Then I
told myself to stop thinking and get some cocoa. It was good cocoa.

Or is your 2) stronger, more like all thoughtful, responsible Reiki masters
are proficient and the ones who aren't shouldn't be giving attunements?
