On 2002/06/24 14:49, Meredith, Justin posted thus to the K-list: well saying there is no "God" for sure is really impossible to state with
absolute certainty, but i agree that Judeo-Christian concepts of God are
more than likely outdated. unless there is a clear evolutionary path for
humans that can be found by archeologists or biologists that dates back to
the origin of the earth itself, or we can find any remains at all relative
to the age of the earth, you can either assume (but not know for sure) one
of two possibilities (but maybe there are more possibilities):
a - life originated with the earth itself and is itself a product of some
chaotic occurance
b- life is not as old as the earth itself. the earth had to first develope
fully to support life, and then somehow life was placed or situated on earth
if humans did evolve from apes (which is a possibility), then apes (or the
beings from which they evolved from) would have to be as old as dinosaurs
from which humans would eventually evolve from (on the premise that
God/Goddess does not in fact exist). evolution probably started for most
beings on a cellular level, which would probably be the most energy
efficient way to evolve - as it would take forever ( i would imagine) for a
fish to evolve into a deer for instance. hopefully you see what i'm getting
at. the reality is is that we don't know how we got here, either by cellular
evolution, evolution from apes, or by flat out creation. so no one can say
for sure if there is or is not a God. the Judeo-Christian concept of God,
is and is not correct (i believe), in regards to the belief that God
controls (or wills) all occurances in this reality. this is true (in my
mind) because a higher state of conscious awareness (God) created all forms
of consciousness (atoms, storms, animals, earth, solar system, humans) -
which in effect is created by "God's will". but all of these forms of
consciousness also operate, once created, independant of anything else or
anything's external control. what makes this existence so great and also at
the same time so saddening is that we have control of only ourselves, but
only to the point until something else interacts with us (that is serving
it's own agenda - or program). but since death is only an illusion - none of
it really matters like we think it does.
you can say that this "god" is the "creator of
everything" but, if
you do that, then you are denying any possibility of
your having a
personal choice or free will - or, in fact, of ever changing who
you are without the permission of this "greater being".
Having been through this question myself, I know the battles you
may choose to experience if you hold on to this "belief". On the
other hand, when you suspend any belief in "god", then anything
is possible.
Yes - there is a "god" - the one created in the minds
of human kind.
