Thank you for responding to my plea.
I understand that it is only by responding to power struggles that
one becomes part of them, but I still wonder if the whole of the
oppresive dominant thought process may come to bare on those who set
themselves apart and the resolution that it might take to stay aloof.
The thing is that I see our common intrest as a continuation of
thought in a very real sense, an empirical sense. This is partly due
to the books that I've been reading nd the history that I'm
intrenched within(Western philosophy), but it does seem to be in
relation to a body that would wish it's own continuance as defined
against ours. Perhaps though, and I do think this, my thought on this
matter is in error. I know this is the fear, the unquencable fear,
and it is all working through.
Also, the surrvelance that some of my friends in the UK go through,
those in the "anti-capitalist", is quite extrodinary. I know this is
for other more state orientated issues, but the very fact that the
movement is defined the way it is leaves the whole battle ground as
still undefined. Who's fighting who?
Not to worry.
I've found some really good literature recently. I'd like to share
some.Laing :
"if the human race survives, future men will, I suspect, look back
on our enlightened epoch as a veritable age of darkness. They will
presumably be able to savour the irony of this situation with more
amusement than we can extract from it. The laugh's on us. They will
see that what we call 'schizophrenaia' was one of the forms in which,
often through quite ordinary people, the light began to break through
the cracks in our all to closed minds...Madness need not be all
breakdown. It may also be breakthrough...The person going through ego-
loss or transcendental experiences may or may not become in different
ways confused. Then he might legitimately be regarded as mad. But to
be mad is not necessarily to be ill, notwithstanding that in our
culture the two categories have become confused...From the alienated
starting point of our pseudo-sanity, everything is equivocal. Our
sanity is not 'true' sanity. Thier madness is not 'true'
madness...The madness that we encounter in 'patients' is a gross
travesty, a mockery, a grotesque caricature of waht the natural
healing of that estranged intergration we call sanity might be. True
sanity entails in one way or another the dissolution of the normal
ego"

Perhaps not as poinent as when I last read it.
My pleas have been answered, my ego satisfied. The need to leave is
not as urgent as before. The bill that the government is pushing
through has come up against strong opposition, and the government
steps down.
In truth I don't wish to leave this list, the light and reasurrance
it gives is qiute crucial at the moment, due to the fact that I am
becoming less and less able to find people who I can talk to about
myself. That's ego that is. I love you all and thank you for your
being.
