I was responding to your comments and the comments you quoted in your post.
If you reread that you'll find my reply fits in that context. Perhaps your
intent was only to pile on the person, not his policies. I don't know your
  politics.

Actually I don't care one way or the other who you like or who you vote for
or against. I don't like the clutter of off topic posts and on this list.
Political posts are about as on topic (whether praising or condeming a party
or officer holder) as spam would be. So that bugged me. Add to that a large
number of the members of this list don't live in the US and it is way off
  topic.

But that wasn't the reason for my post. I was making a point. I expected it
to get a rise, and from my off list traffic, it has done that.

My point was it isn't insults, rudeness, harsh statements, or the like that
people find objectionable. Those are perfectably acceptable to individuals
and to a group, if a critical mass of the group agrees with the who the
victim should be. Bigotry is OK, just hate the right people.

By way of example, please forgive me while I go off topic for a moment.
Republicans should admit that however a disgusting immoral bastard they may
think Clinton to be, without him there would have been no welfare reform
(something they've wanted for years and something that needed fixing,
whether what was done was the thing to do or not is a different question).
Democrats should admit that Regan's programs gave the push that tipped the
USSR into falling apart and, here's the payoff they've all wanted for years,
ending the cold war (how much of an improvement that is, remains to be
  seen).

But it is rare to hear those admissions. Examine your feelings as you read
those lines, were you dispassionate about them, willing to admit them both
  to be right?

My earlier comments, that brought me hate mail demanding I drop off the
list, were strong, too strong. But at least my anger at someone and some
ideas was not such that I brought it into a list where it had no business
being. It was on topic, if it wasn't the most nicely stated post.

I know my mistakes, I just thought I'd hold up a mirror and help others as I
was helped. Some have found that unpleasant.

  Namaste,

  Joe
