Hi, I agree with what you were told at your yoga center. I think suffering
helps in finally transcending one's ego. It is giving up to a higher power
if you will, whatever the individual interpretation happens to be (God or
Goddess, the overself). But this is not accomplished overnight. It must
become well grounded within the individual to be effective and I must admit
