On 2002/05/26 19:37, Lbra782595 posted thus to the K-list: Greetings and Welcome Minnesotafirechild,
I am a chi kung instructor and am familiar with your "symptoms". As a new
practitioner of chi gong ( also known as chi kung or qigong) it was somewhat
irresponsible of your instructor to start you off with the breathing. Chi
Kung should be taught in stages to prevent "situations" like yours. There is
hope though.
Ease off on the breathing. Just hold the postures for a while and get the
proper alignments memorized before you add in the breathing patterns. The
breathing adds a lot of energy to the practice and with that much energy
running around in your body, things are like to get a bit "disheveled".
Just try to feel the energy moving through your body as you hold the
postures. You will still get "little jolts". These are called "rocks in the
stream". The "rocks" are energy blockages and the "stream" is the flow of
chi. The practice of chi kung will slowly eliminate chi blockages in your
body. When the chi breaks through one of these blockages you get the little
jolt, the involuntary movement. I have seen students jump three feet
straight into the air from an stationary chi kung stance.......totally
involuntarily. You can try adjusting your position slightly to let the chi
circulate more easily. Chi Kung positions are not absolutely written in
stone, some adjustment is usually needed.
As for the other symptoms, it sounds like the excess chi hit your kundalini
and energized it. The "pelvic thrusting" movements you discribe sound like K
putting you into the kundalini-yoga position known as "The First Lock" (of
which there are three--lower body, mid-body, upper body). This is a repeated
contraction and release of the lower abdominal muscles. This helps K rise to
the brain.
K causing spontaneous yoga positions is not all that uncommon. It has given
me all three "locks" in rapid succesion causing my body to undualte in
fashion that appears very sexual. It has little to do with sex actually. It
just your body's way of facillitating the rising of the K energy. I suppose
the repeated muscle contractions could actually bring on an orgasm if the
person was in the right frame of mind and not overly frightened of what was
happening to them. I have also experienced other yoga positions and well as
being placed into what I would describe a "kneeling, prayerful, pose".
Overall.........take it easy, don't rush the chi kung. The health benefits
of it are tremendous if practiced properly and can be catastrophic if not.
Your early practice of chi kung should be monitored by an experienced
teacher. KEEP YOUR WEIGHT IN YOUR HEALS AND YOUR KNEES BENT! That is about
the best advice I can give you without actually observing your practice. If
you feel the energy moving in your body, try to bring it "in" at the top of
the head and then ground it through your feet. Don't wear hard sole or
rubber sole shoes while practicing chi kung. Cotton soles or barefoot are
the best ways. Use arch supports in the shoes if needed at first.
Eventually, chi kung will eliminate the need for arch supports.
