Barbara Brennan's books are good. "Hands of light" describes the
chakras, and the energy bodies as well as being a good solid textbook for
wanna be energy healers.

   If you want a translation of the ancient yogas, then Arthur Avalon has a
book called "The Serpent Power" that is a tough read but it also goes into
what Hindu Goddesses inhabit each chakra, and the traditional Sanskrit
chakra mandalas... their forms, colours, mantras etc. Most people would
find Barbara more accessible.

   There are also a lot of websites that describe the chakras... the
gateway links page has several of them.
