Hi,

I'm writing from abroad, so... what do ADD and AHD mean?

Thanks,

  Magdalene,

I may have mentioned this in the long ago past but I don't buy the
medical/psychological communities' take on ADD. For starters they
consider
homosexuality to be normal and appear in about 10% of the population. ADD
is
suspected of appearing in closer to 20% of the population. If 10% is
normal
and 20% is not normal someone's math is totally screwed. (Nothing against
homosexuality in case someone is getting uptight, just making a point of
  math.)

There are several books out by Thom Hartman (I think I've spelled his name
right) that come much closer to my opinion on ADD. He says society has
"farmers" and "hunters" and did from the beginning of time. In the old
days
farmers could focus and be plodding and boring (to use my less flattering
terms) while hunters had to always be scanning the horizon to find their
food, and to keep from becoming food.

Today's society is a farmer's world and they don't allow for us hunters.
They say we are "sick" in some way and drug the shit out of us if we (or
our
parents) let them. They did it to our less numerous gay friends for years.

We need to focus on what we do much better than them (observation is one
of
our strengths because we see so much, successful business people tend to
have ADD in high numbers so they can multi-task, etc.). We also need to
avoid things that make our characteristic a pathology, kill your TV for
example. And we need to compensate for living in a farmer's world, make
lists and follow them for example.

I can tell you from experience training two people, one ADD and one not,
in
awareness and observation and taking them out in the woods you get very
different results. The ADD one will "get it" much much faster than the
other
one and will know many times what they saw and heard when questioned on it
  after the fact.

  Namaste,

  Joe
