If your washer has an off balanced load, the tub goes too far to one side --
on it's elliptical obit. The socks float on top of the load and when it
spins the socks go over the top of the tub and get sucked out with the
water. Washers eat socks.Viscous creatures!
Try putting your socks in a zippered pillow case. That way you can test the
theory.
