That I can't say, but the word "ankh" has two translations: "life" and
"hand mirror." I don't know if the scholars who postulate that it's the
hand mirror of Hathor (and the Venus symbol the hand mirror of Venus)
started with the etymology and worked outwards or if the etymology was
somehow influenced by those who postulated the mirror theory. I haven't dug
deeply enough into the whole thing to begin to say.
